Ducks are a homestead animal that add a ton of personality to the homestead.
We've raised a few varieties over the years but have settled on Pekin ducks as our favorite. Pekin ducks are considered a “meat duck” and it's the breed used by commercial duck farms and fancy restaurants. But, they are actually good layers as well. We keep Pekin ducks on our homestead for egg and meat production, and for their fun personalities.
All ducks have a 28 incubation period before hatching. Pekin ducks reach mature size for the freezer in 8-10 weeks. They are a fast maturing option when raising meat for your family.
